Junior Training at HABS

juniors, news, training

It’s schools’ half term… . so that means a HH Junior Training day.

This time we were extremely grateful to Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys School (HABS) for allowing the use of their facilities.

As you know, HABS is a regular venue for HH Saturday League events and therefore an up to date map was available – and just in case it rained (which it did), the school had generously provided the use of a gymnasium and other facilities so that we could spend some time on honing skills indoors before trying them out in the school grounds.

For the first time we invited a younger age group (6-10 year olds) to come along and we had 5 in this age group with another 6 juniors with greater experience.

For the younger ones (who coincidentally brought their mothers along), we spent time on understanding map colours and symbols, leading into map orientation using both ground and compass.

The older group spent time understanding the need for choosing good attack points and putting them into use.

After lunch we had a fun relay – and even the youngest stayed on to be involved.

All in all, an excellent day for all who attended.

Our thanks to Frances, Susan, Kevin and Mark for their time and coaching skills and to HABS for allowing us the use of their facilities.

We hope to see you all – and more – again at February Junior Half Term.
