Organiser’s Comments

When organising an event there are certain things that you really want to go smoothly: parking (we had enough space on the access road); the weather (a bit chilly but we had beautiful sunshine, no wind and no rain); good entries (218 was ideal) and a fine team of helpers-on-the-day to deliver a smooth event (we did). Oh, and it also helped that the assembly area was less than a three-mile drive from my home so I only had to be out of the door by 7:40 am!

Hugh Wiltshire’s courses were very well received (except by me…but I now admit that it was entirely my fault for mis-punching and nothing whatsoever to do with similarly-numbered controls!!) and utilised the full extent of the park for the first time. We are indebted to Tarmac and Maydencroft for the use of the area and hope to work with them for years to come.

Unfortunately, the day was not without incident as a competitor was brought back down to the assembly suffering from hypothermia and shortness of breath and was later taken by ambulance to the Lister Hospital. Our first aid team was on hand to offer help until paramedics arrived who were able to administer appropriate treatment. Sterling work by all involved and best wishes to the casualty for a full and speedy recovery.

Hope to see many of you at Stanborough in November and don’t forget our Ace of Herts event at Ashridge on 25th Feb 2024.
