Organiser’s Comments

I hope you all had a great time, in the lovely or even on one leg poetic landscapes of Panshanger Park.  The forecast thunderstorms stayed away and the late summer sunshine (I think we have one day left before the solstice tomorrow) made for a great if sometimes hot day out.  The event field was very pleasant and had the benefit of excellent small oak for tree climbing.

There weren’t any insurmountable challenges. Mobile signal for SI and events comms –  HH future organisers should note – is patchy on some networks and non-existent on others down in the valley and over lots of the park, but we coped with what we had.

Turnout was slightly disappointing, and so HH’ers or others it would be useful to know if normal customers were all on holiday, blind-sided by a Saturday series event out of sequence mid-month or other reasons. It was a good orienteering event though, with challenging and fun courses from Elizabeth.  So many thanks for coming and running on one of our better areas and certainly more rural ones in the midst of Hertfordshire.

Many Thanks to Elizabeth for planning, Tom for controlling and all of the very capable HH helpers that made the event much easier to organise.  Thanks too to Tarmac for land access and all the team at Maydencroft for their support and help in making the event happen.

I have some lost property – a thumb compass found on the course, a red top, and some cake trays which I am told are from the YBT final.

Our next event is at Verulamium in 2 weeks time – back to the normal 1st Saturday of the month.  We have been able to extend the area to include the old park golf course, which made for good cross-country racing earlier this year, so will make our event a bit different and add interest with new control sites (sandy pits ) and route choice .  So enter now and come and enjoy.
