Organiser’s Comments

The purpose of the HH Saturday Series events is a way for club members, orienteers, families and newcomers of all ages to experience how fun orienteering is, and today at Verulamium we achieved that. I do hope everyone enjoyed being out in such a beautiful park; we even managed some sunshine over the course of the morning.

The updated and newly mapped area provided a fresh perspective, and courses made full use of this, providing more intricacy in an area that has traditionally been less technical than our other Saturday Series locations. Sincerest thanks to mappers Simon & David D, Planner Stu, Controller David S for their dedication in preparation and executing all the courses.

Over the course of the morning, we welcomed a wide range of newcomers- city dwellers made the trip to St Albans on the train, some members of St Alban Striders and even a lovely school group from HABS. The highlight was seeing so many regular and returning members out on courses.

The morning could not have taken place without all our fabulous volunteers; every person made a valuable contribution to the success of the event and the general feedback from competitors was that HH helpers were friendly, caring and dedicated. Of course, thanks to St Alban District Council for land permission, Sea Cadets for the use of their cabin, Abbey View Track making their toilets available.

LOST PROPERTY: A Silva thumb compass was handed in- please get in touch so we can return.

Our next Saturday Series event is Fairlands Valley, Stevenage on 2nd November. This location is home to three conservation areas, peaceful and scenic woodlands, and lakes. Do mark your diaries and we look forward to seeing you there!

Finally, the HH Club Championships are taking place at Hodgemoor Woods on 20th October – an opportunity to take home a trophy?!
