Organiser’s Comments
One of the organiser’s biggest worries at any event is the weather…in my (relatively) short time as head honcho I have had to deal with heavy rain, overnight waterlogging and winds strong enough to need eight people to hold down a tent! This time I was lucky. This venue has seen very-short-notice parking arrangement re-jigging in recent years but the field we had this time was ideal: high at the entrance and nice and dry throughout. I was bemoaning the low temperatures but I would take that in preference to wind and rain any day.
I am indebted to other senior members of Happy Herts for the sterling work they put in to negotiating permissions, securing a great arena field, finalising the licences and tweaking the risk assessment several times. Also thanks to Paul Todd (LOK) for his top-class work as controller.
Unfortunately, we were limited to 100 competitors in Burnham, so the shorter courses had to stay in the confines of Egypt and Hangings Wood, but there was a great deal of runability for everyone and course speeds were fairly high as a result.
Turnout was also very good – 495 of you in fact. Thank you all again for supporting us today and we look forward to welcoming you at the 2024 edition at Ashridge on 25th Feb next year.
