Mapper’s Comments

Apologies for the missing grid lines on the map. They somehow got hidden during the update process. Only two people pointed it out to me, and one of them had worked out that they could use the undergrowth screen symbol instead (congratulations Jim).

Planner’s Comments

Thank you so much to everyone who raced today. It was great to see so many people from different clubs enjoying the lovely weather and terrain that Verulamium provided us with for HH’s GLOSS offering. I was pleased to hear positive comments regarding the surprisingly tricky forest sections of the course, and the concluding excitement of the twists and turns you were forced to experience in the former golf course. I hope you had as much fun running round as I’ve had on my walks over the last month with a map and an ice cream!

I realise it’s probably not really the planner’s job, but I wanted to say a personal thank you to all the volunteers who put in such a huge amount of work to make the event run smoothly.   We don’t often name every person we can remember, but the entertainment industry that I work in is all about the credits, so on this occasion I’m going to commit (deep breath) and give a special mention to….

  • The two Tims for getting a superb assembly area up and running first thing.
  • Hugh, Barbara and Neil for being such friendly faces to greet everybody.
  • Penny and Fiona for keeping order on registration, alongside ‘SI Masters’ Kevin and Dave.
  • Ian, Mike, David and Danny for working an intense shift getting a high number of competitors through the start lanes efficiently.
  • Hedley and Roger for providing charming smiles and essential intel at the Finish/changeover area.
  • Viv, David, Daniel, Issy, Richard and Kate for collecting a mammoth number of controls, and helping with the pack-down.
  • Simon for an excellent map and provision of the best kit in Hertfordshire.
  • David and Rob for some super memories in the form of photographs.
  • Ben for obtaining us the permissions at such short notice, and for SADC for being so accommodating with this.
  • Rob and Kerria for Controlling the courses and for making my job so easy. Rob (all the way from Brighton) ensured the maps looked good and the courses were ‘legal’. Kerria joined me on countless trips and was the second pair of eyes I needed to stop me being a dingbat.
  • Organiser Tim for effortlessly pulling the strings to organise a superb occasion with no hiccups and (as they always say), the weather.
  • And also another special mention to Neil (provider of chocolate cake) and Mike for being so helpful and forthcoming with advice over the last month.

My sincere apologies if I’ve missed anybody – it’s amazing when you list everyone how many cogs come together to power the O’ machine!

See you all at the next one!
