Find Your Way – Wardown Park
A free summer holiday activity for newcomers and beginners.
Who is it for? | Anyone who fancies a walk or jog with a difference. The courses are entirely in the park so no roads are involved and are ideal for adults and juniors alike. |
When | Turn up to start between 18:45 and 19:15 on Tuesday evening. Help will be available until 20:15. |
Meeting Point & Free Parking |
Parking: Wardown Park, New Bedford Road, Luton LU3 1LP
Start/assembly: Outside the adjacent museum Wardown Park is a 20 minute walk from Luton train station. There are also bus routes with stops on New Bedford Road within a 5 minute walk of the event start. |
How it works | Short 1.2km, medium 1.4km, long 1.7km. You decide which you want to try.
All courses are entirely within the Park. Short and medium courses have one section that runs in parallel to the car park entrance road and runners are asked to stay on the grass. The long course requires runners to cross the car park entrance road – this is a 5mph speed limited road, however, runners are asked to be vigilant. Use the MapRun app on your smartphone to track your route, show you your current position and ping when you get to each control. It will also give you a time in the results once you’ve finished. Your task is to navigate around the park, visiting the controls in the order marked. If you have a compass, it may be useful but it certainly won’t be necessary to bring one. We’ll also give you a waterproof paper map showing your course, which can be easier than squinting at a phone! You can go round singly, in pairs or as a group. This activity is being run in parallel with a street-based orienteering event (not suitable for unaccompanied juniors) for orienteers and more adventurous newcomers. More information here if this is of interest. |
Instruction and Help | Help will be available with all aspects from our Club members – look for people in hi-viz jackets. |
