Depleted HH juniors achieve 6th place!

The Yvette Baker Trophy, 4th July 2021

The Yvette Baker Trophy is always an exciting competition for our juniors, and one of their chances to get together as a team. 2021 was no exception. With a good mixture of experienced athletes and comparative beginners it was still going to be hard to hold onto our third place from 2019.

And then Covid struck, as one by one members of the team got the dreaded message to self-isolate. With six talented runners unable to take part, the team was in trouble.

Fortunately, the remaining 16 juniors made the trip to Westonbirt Arboretum, on a warm and humid Sunday. The vegetation was high and there were heavy showers but the team were not deterred. They all did their runs and when the points were added up, HH was in sixth place.

Particular congratulations go to our nine (well, ten) point scorers: Issy, Oliver, Ben, Robin, Bors, Darrio, Lauren and Charlotte, Hanga and Charlie. Our two youngest competitors, Charlotte and Daniel got valuable experience, and everyone contributed to the team position.

Lots of talent coming through to add to our squad – and next year should be interesting.

Well done all – including the ones who trained but then had to miss out on the event..
