WhatsNext Junior Update

Upcoming Events – Early Autumn 2019

It is now approaching the end of July so I think it appropriate to think about the events you might want to attend in the autumn:

Jersey Farm on the 7th September

Stating at home, there is the first Saturday Series of a new season at Jersey Farm on the 7th September.  This is a new venue for the club so I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s like.  As usual all the event details will be on the HH web site.

Peter Palmer Junior Team Relay – overnight 7th-8th September

A highlight of the season for Juniors is the PPJTR (Peter Palmer Junior Team Relay) and this year the venue is in the South East near East Grinstead, so it’s very accessible.

If you are interested in joining a team please contact Frances (hgoldingay@aol.com ) for more details.

Here are Kevin Fielding’s thoughts;
The Peter Palmer Relays is a brilliant team event for Juniors. It’s great fun, with overnight accommodation provided in a sports hall adjacent to the area before a mixture of night, dawn and early morning relay legs. This year’s event will be relatively nearby at East Grinstead, Sussex.  Please keep the night of 7/8 September free if you are interested in joining in’.

British Sprint & Middle Distance Championships – 14/15th September

Following on rapidly at the beginning of September are the British Sprint Championships (http://www.britishsprintchamps.org.uk/  ) and British Middle Distance Championships. (http://www.britishmiddlechamps.org.uk/) on the weekend of 14/15th September.

Hosted by EMOA (East Midlands), the Sprints are at Loughborough University and the Middle Distance on Chinly Churn in NW Derbyshire.  Chinley Churn is an interesting area containing detailed navigation with some open moorland.

Should be an event worth attending!

Other events

The weekend of 28/29th September  brings up the Junior Inter-regional Championships in South Yorkshire for those selected to represent the South East.

But there is also the Caddihoe Chase. This year on Burrator in Devon – an excellent way to combine the sights of the South West with interesting orienteering.

Quite a choice and that’s only September!

October starts with the HH Saturday Series event, this time at Heartwood near St Albans on the 5th and is quickly followed by the Jack of Herts event at Ashridge on the 12th.
As usual all details on the web site.

And looking even further forward you might consider the October Odyssey on 26/27th October, remembering that the 2020 JK is also being hosted by the North East (NEOA).

And then at the beginning of November (3rd) there is the November Classic in the New Forest. But more of that later.
