This event is part of Welwyn Garden City’s centenary celebrations.

TERRAIN Open parkland with small areas of woodland. Large uncrossable water features.
PARKING Stanborough North car park,
PUBLIC TRANSPORT Stanborough Park is 1.5 miles from the train station, following Parkway and Stanborough Road.
Courses for everybody from beginners of any age to experienced orienteers.

White 1.0-2.0 km Easy – all along paths, control flags whenever you need to decide to turn. Up to Y4

Yellow 2.0-3.0 km Fairly easy – navigate along line features such as paths, walls, streams. Some turns with no control flags. Y6
Orange 2.5-3.5 km Moderate – start cutting across country, some controls a bit away from line features. Y7-8

Light Green 3.0-4.5 km Harder – a range of navigational skills needed to find controls on any mapped feature. Y11-13
Short Blue 4.5-6.0 km As hard as we can make it on the area. n/a

*These are the recommended courses for people in these school years who enter the Youth League, however some will be invited to ‘run up’.

You may enter any course and will automatically be entered in the club’s Saturday League unless you ask not to.

STARTS Register from 10:00 to 11:15 or visit http://sat.maptypes.org to reserve map/dibber and skip the form-filling queue.
Starts from 10:30 – 11:30. Courses close at 12:30.
FEES Non-members: Adults £6, Juniors £3
BOF members: Adults £4, Juniors £2
HH juniors free; adults accompanying juniors are also free but will need to pay £1 if they need an extra map.
Card payment is available, subject to mobile phone signal.
PUNCHING Sportident punching will be used.
Dibber hire £1.00. Charge for lost dibbers £30

FACILITIES Toilets near car park may be open. Further toilets and cafe ~500m away, S of Stanborough Road.
DOGS Keep on lead and clear up behind you.
SAFETY Orienteering is an adventure sport. You take part at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety. A full risk assessment will have been carried out.

Only cross Stanborough Road at the underpass marked on the map.  Take care as the path is not very wide and headroom is under 6′ at one end.

Take care near lakes, the water is deep.

RESULTS There will be a local WiFi network near download accessible from any smart-phone or tablet providing the following:

  • Live Results and splits updated every few minutes.
  • Live SplitsBrowser also updated every few minutes. Very few events provide this!

Go to network hhresults. There is no password.

Full results will be published on www.herts-orienteering.club and Routegadget; we aim to do so on the day of the event.
