Jersey Farm

Welcome! This is our first event in 18 months we can genuinely welcome newcomers of all ages to. We will give help to get started and we’ve added a White course, which even under-10s should be able to manage with minimal assistance.

We are still being cautious about infection, in line with British Orienteering’s guidance on Covid:

  • You must pre-enter and pay in advance through SIEntriesclick here to enter…
This isn’t strictly in the BOF guidance, but we think it’s easier for both you and us.

  • You should not come if you have symptoms of COVID-19, are living in a household with someone who has a possible or confirmed COVID-19 infection, have been asked to isolate by NHS Test and Trace, or are serving a quarantine period after travel. You’ll get a full refund.
  • Please maintain appropriate distance from others.
TERRAIN Rough open grassland with scattered blocks of woodland and an extensive path network.

Registration, start and finish are located on the edge of the woods just north of the junction of Sandringham Crescent and Chiltern Road.

PARKING There is no dedicated car park. Please park considerately on local streets. There should be plenty of space available within a five minute walk off Chiltern Road or The Ridgeway. Please do NOT try to park on Sandringham Crescent.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT Route 653 from St Albans station or Hatfield station to Quantock Close, Chiltern Road.
COURSES Courses for everybody from beginners of any age to experienced orienteers.

Course Straight line Distance Difficulty
White 1.5 – 2.5 km Easy – all along paths. Control flags when you need to decide whether to turn.
Yellow 2 – 3 km Fairly easy – navigate along line features such as paths, walls, streams. Some turns with no control flags.

Light Green 3 – 4.5 km Harder – a range of navigational skills needed to find controls on any mapped feature.
Short Blue 4.5 – 6 km As hard as we can make it on the area.

British Orienteering Covid-19 guidance is that although most legal restrictions have been removed, orienteers should take precautions to avoid transmission. In particular:

  • If you have symptoms of COVID-19, are living in a household with someone who has a possible or confirmed COVID-19 infection, or have been asked to isolate by NHS Test and Trace, you should not come. You’ll get a full refund.
  • Before, during and after your run, maintain appropriate distance from other runners and other park users.
  • Do not share water bottles or food containers.
  • Hand sanitiser is available – please use it.
RESULTS Interim results will be published direct to the club website every few minutes during the event. There will be no printed results (apart from your own splits) or WiFi available.
